Description
Pea protein is extracted from yellow field peas and has become one of the principal plant proteins in nutrition formulation, largely because it is free of the major allergens associated with dairy and soy while still delivering a good amino acid profile. It is relatively rich in lysine and in the branched-chain amino acids, though comparatively limited in methionine, which is why it is frequently paired with rice protein to give a more complete profile. It is used in plant-based sports nutrition, meat alternatives, bars and beverages. The material is a light beige powder with a characteristic pulse note that formulations normally account for.
