Description
L-theanine is an amino acid that occurs naturally in the leaves of Camellia sinensis and is responsible for much of the savoury, umami character of brewed green tea. It does not appear in protein. It is formulated into relaxation, focus and sleep-support supplement products, frequently alongside caffeine, and into functional beverages. The material is a white crystalline powder, freely soluble in water, with a mild umami taste that is generally easy to mask or to work with. It is stable under normal storage conditions and tolerates the processing used in beverage manufacture. It is typically used at modest inclusion levels.
