Description
D-aspartic acid is the mirror-image form of the more common L-aspartic acid. Unlike the L-form, which is a building block of protein, the D-form occurs in smaller quantities in the body and is formulated as a standalone ingredient in sports nutrition and men's health supplement categories. As a material it is a white crystalline powder with limited solubility in cold water, improving with warmth and with pH adjustment. It has a sour taste. Because the enantiomer matters to the specification, the optical form should be stated clearly on purchase documentation. Analytical confirmation of the enantiomeric identity can be requested with the specification sheet.
