Description
Beta-alanine differs from the common protein-forming amino acids in that its amino group sits on the beta carbon rather than the alpha position. In the body it combines with histidine to form carnosine, which is why it is formulated widely into pre-workout and endurance products. As an ingredient it is a free-flowing crystalline powder that dissolves readily in water, making it straightforward to use in powder blends, sticks and ready-to-mix beverages. It has a mildly sour, slightly sweet profile and is usually incorporated alongside flavour systems. Beta-alanine is also used in sustained-release presentations where formulators wish to spread the dose over a longer period.
