Description
L-phenylalanine is an essential aromatic amino acid and the precursor to tyrosine and, through it, to the catecholamine neurotransmitters. It is formulated into amino acid blends, sports nutrition and clinical nutrition products, and it is a raw material in aspartame manufacture. The material is a white crystalline powder with moderate solubility in water and a slightly bitter taste. Products containing phenylalanine require a declaration for people with phenylketonuria in most markets, so labelling obligations should be checked at the formulation stage. It is stable under normal storage conditions.
