Description
L-alanine is one of the twenty amino acids used in protein synthesis and is among the most abundant in human plasma. It has a mildly sweet taste and is formulated both for its nutritional role and as a flavour component, where it rounds savoury profiles and contributes body to seasoning systems. It is a standard component of amino acid blends, parenteral and enteral nutrition formulations, and sports nutrition products. The material is a white crystalline powder that dissolves readily in water. Where cost is the governing factor and the specific L-form is not required, the racemic DL-alanine is sometimes used instead.
