Description
L-carnitine base is the unsalted form of L-carnitine, a compound involved in transporting fatty acids into the mitochondria for energy production. That biological role is the basis of its formulation into sports nutrition, weight management and general supplement products. The free base is markedly hygroscopic — considerably more so than the tartrate or hydrochloride salts — which affects how it is handled, packed and blended, and is the main reason formulators often select a salt form instead for dry products. The base is very soluble in water and is well suited to liquid formats such as shots, syrups and ready-to-drink beverages where its moisture sensitivity is not a constraint.
