Description
Silymarin is the flavonolignan complex extracted from the seeds of milk thistle, Silybum marianum. It is not a single compound but a group of closely related constituents — silybin, silydianin, silychristin and others — and commercial material is standardised to a declared total content of the complex, most often determined by a specified analytical method. It is formulated into liver-support and general wellness supplement products and into herbal blends. The material is a yellowish to light brown powder of low water solubility. Standardisation level, analytical method and extraction solvent differ between specifications and should be confirmed on enquiry.
