Description
N-acetyl-L-tyrosine, commonly abbreviated NALT, is tyrosine carrying an acetyl group on the amino nitrogen. Free tyrosine has among the lowest water solubility of the common amino acids, which severely limits how much can be carried in a liquid formulation; acetylation raises solubility substantially and is the main reason the derivative exists commercially. It is formulated into pre-workout, focus and cognitive supplement products, and into parenteral nutrition where tyrosine is needed in solution. The material is a white crystalline powder, freely soluble in water. Tyrosine content per unit weight is lower than that of the free amino acid.
