Description
L-ornithine L-aspartate, commonly abbreviated LOLA, combines two amino acids that both participate in the urea cycle. Ornithine is a non-proteinogenic amino acid central to that cycle, and aspartic acid feeds into it as well, which is why the pairing is of interest in formulations addressing nitrogen handling. It is formulated into sports nutrition, recovery and liver-support supplement products, and it is used in clinical nutrition. Salting the two together gives a stable, soluble material with no non-amino-acid counter-ion. The material is a white crystalline powder, freely soluble in water.
