Description
L-threonine is an essential amino acid that the body cannot synthesise. It is produced in large volume for animal nutrition, where it is frequently the second or third limiting amino acid in cereal-based diets and supplementation allows dietary crude protein to be reduced. It is also formulated into human amino acid blends, clinical nutrition and supplement products. Threonine has a particular association with mucin production in the gut, which is of interest in both animal and clinical formulation. The material is a white crystalline powder, freely soluble in water, with a mildly sweet taste. It is stable under normal storage conditions.
