Description
L-arginine alpha-ketoglutarate, commonly abbreviated AAKG, combines two molecules of arginine with one of alpha-ketoglutaric acid, a Krebs cycle intermediate. It is formulated principally into pre-workout and nitric oxide products, where the arginine portion serves as a nitric oxide precursor and the alpha-ketoglutarate portion is of independent interest to formulators working on energy metabolism. Compared with arginine salts such as the hydrochloride, AAKG gives a different solubility and taste profile and avoids adding chloride to the blend. The material is supplied as a powder, soluble in water. The 2 to 1 ratio refers to the molar proportion of arginine to alpha-ketoglutarate.
