Description

L-carnitine L-tartrate, often abbreviated LCLT, is the form of carnitine most commonly specified for dry formulation work. Its advantage over the free base is practical — the base is strongly hygroscopic and difficult to handle in open plant, whereas the tartrate is comparatively stable, free-flowing and far easier to blend, tablet and capsule. Functionally the carnitine portion is the same, participating in fatty acid transport for energy production. It is formulated into sports nutrition, weight management and recovery products. The material is a white crystalline powder, soluble in water. Carnitine content per kilogram is lower than that of the free base.
