Description
Sodium hyaluronate is the sodium salt form of hyaluronic acid and is the presentation most commonly used in formulation work. It is preferred over the free acid because it is more stable, more readily soluble in water and easier to handle, while delivering the same water-binding behaviour that makes the material valuable. It is produced by bacterial fermentation. It is formulated into serums, creams and other skin care products, into joint and skin supplement products, and into ophthalmic and medical device applications. As with hyaluronic acid, molecular weight grade governs performance and should be specified explicitly for the intended application.
