Description
Conjugated linoleic acid is not a single compound but a family of positional and geometric isomers of linoleic acid, in which the double bonds are conjugated rather than separated by a methylene group. It occurs naturally in ruminant fat and dairy. Commercial material is normally produced from safflower or sunflower oil and is dominated by two isomers. It is formulated into weight management and sports nutrition products, and is supplied both as an oil and as a powder on a carrier for dry blending. Because the isomer distribution differs between specifications and affects the product materially, it should be confirmed on enquiry.
