Description
Choline bitartrate pairs choline with tartaric acid to give a stable, free-flowing salt. Choline itself is an essential nutrient involved in phospholipid structure, methyl group metabolism and acetylcholine synthesis, but the free base is a caustic, extremely hygroscopic liquid and impractical as an ingredient — which is why salts such as the bitartrate are what actually reach formulation. It is used in general supplement products, cognitive formulations, sports nutrition and infant and animal nutrition. The material is a white crystalline powder, freely soluble in water, with an acidic, slightly sour taste. It remains hygroscopic and is normally protected from moisture.
