Description
Niacinamide, also called nicotinamide, is the amide form of vitamin B3 and functions as a precursor to the coenzymes NAD and NADP. It differs from nicotinic acid in one respect that matters commercially — it does not produce the cutaneous flushing associated with that form, which is why it is generally preferred in supplement and fortification applications. In cosmetics it has become one of the most widely used active ingredients, formulated into products addressing skin barrier function, tone and appearance. The material is a white crystalline powder, freely soluble in water, and is stable to heat and to a wide pH range.
