Description
Inositol is a carbocyclic polyol that exists in nine stereoisomeric forms, of which myo-inositol is overwhelmingly the most abundant in nature and in commerce; material sold simply as "inositol" is normally the myo- form. It participates in cell membrane phospholipid structure and in intracellular signalling. It is formulated into general supplement products, women's health and metabolic formulations, sports nutrition, infant nutrition and energy drinks. The material is a white crystalline powder, freely soluble in water, with a mildly sweet taste of roughly half the sweetness of sucrose. It is stable under normal storage conditions and straightforward to formulate.
