Description
Marine collagen peptide is produced by enzymatically hydrolysing collagen obtained from fish skin and scales, breaking the intact protein into short peptides of low molecular weight. The hydrolysis is what makes the material usable — intact collagen is insoluble and forms a gel, whereas the peptides dissolve readily in cold water without gelling, which is what allows them to be formulated into beverages and sachets. It is used in skin, hair and nail supplement products, in beauty beverages and in cosmetic preparations. The material is a white to pale beige powder with a mild characteristic odour. Fish is a declarable allergen in most markets.
