Description
Isopentyldiol is a branched five-carbon diol used in personal care formulation as a multifunctional ingredient. It acts as a humectant, drawing and holding moisture in the formulation, and as a solvent and solubiliser for materials that are difficult to incorporate into aqueous systems, including some active ingredients and fragrance components. It also contributes to the sensory profile, giving a lighter, less tacky feel than glycerin, which is one reason formulators select it.
