Description
Creatine hydrochloride presents creatine as its hydrochloride salt. Formulators select it chiefly for its solubility behaviour — it dissolves in water more readily than creatine monohydrate, which allows a smaller volume of liquid to carry the same quantity and suits concentrated shot and stick-pack formats. In solution it is distinctly acidic and sharply sour, so flavour systems are normally built around it. Because the salt contributes weight that is not creatine, formulations written against a creatine content rather than a product weight need to allow for that difference. It is supplied as a fine powder and is hygroscopic, so moisture-protective packaging is usual.
