Description
Agmatine is formed in the body by decarboxylation of arginine and acts as a neuromodulator. It is supplied commercially as the sulphate salt, which is far more stable and easier to handle than free agmatine. In formulation it appears almost entirely in the sports nutrition category, in pre-workout and pump products, where it is used alongside or in place of arginine and citrulline. The material is a white to off-white crystalline powder, soluble in water, with a notably bitter and sour taste that requires a masking system in consumer products. It is used at low inclusion levels relative to the bulk amino acids.
