Description
Silicon dioxide in its synthetic amorphous form is used across food, supplement and pharmaceutical manufacture as an anticaking and free-flow agent. Its extremely high surface area allows it to adsorb moisture and to separate particles, which prevents caking in hygroscopic powders and improves flow through hoppers and tabletting equipment. The same property makes it useful as a carrier for liquids, converting oils and liquid flavours into free-flowing powders. It is used at low inclusion levels. The material is a very fine white powder of low bulk density, which makes it dusty to handle and warrants appropriate dust control in the plant.
